Charles Darwin, 1809 - 1882
Aboard the HMS Beagle, Charles Darwin arrived to the Galapagos on September 15, 1835, and stayed there for five weeks.  Only two weeks were spent on land, while the rest was spent navigating within the islands.  He visited San Cristobal, Floreana, James, and Isabela Islands.
“From so simple a beginning, endless forms, most beautiful and most wonderful, have been and are being evolved.”
-Charles Darwin
