Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology

Doctoral Degree Program

The Doctoral Program in Speech-Language Pathology provides students with knowledge and skills as researchers and educators. Doctoral candidates take advanced-level courses in the School and University. Candidates who hold a master's degree in speech-language pathology or audiology must take a total of 60 credits of doctoral course work, complete the candidacy requirements, and develop and defend a substantial report on original research to complete the doctoral degree. Incoming students without a Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology must complete the prerequisite courses for a degree in this area. A Master's Degree or equivalent is required for the practice of Speech Language Pathology.

Graduate assistantships for two academic years are available on a competitive basis; these pay a stipend and have full tuition coverage. Other means of financial support may be available for a third year (e.g., fellowships, teaching, funding from faculty grants).
