November marks the time in the semester for you to meet with your advisor to plan your spring schedule, and perhaps winter session. It may also be time to review progress toward completion of requirements for your master’s or doctoral degree. In meeting with your advisor, the expectation is that you are an active participant, fully aware of the policies and procedures that guide your study and your next steps. Advisement is a right; it is also a responsibility, and works best when both you and your advisor work in partnership throughout the advisement process. Visit www.steinhardt.nyu.edu/studentaffairs.
As you go forward with your planning, take advantage of the opportunities you can include in your academic experience. Consider NYU Study Abroad and/or Steinhardt Study Abroad, www.steinhardt.nyu.edu. Apply for a Dean’s Grant for Student Research or a Pre-Doctoral Summer Research Grant, www.steinhardt.nyu.edu/student_awards/grants. The next edition of Student Matters will be published in January. In the meantime, mark your calendars for the all-University weeklong celebration honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. starting January 19th. Spring semester classes begin on the 20th—so the week will be very busy. Best wishes for the remainder of the semester. Let us be helpful at email@example.com or come see us in Pless Hall, 2nd Floor.
