Friends of Art: A Scholarship Fund Supports Exceptional M.F.A. Students

The NYU Steinhardt Friends of Art group helps young artists attend NYU Steinhardt’s Master of Fine Arts Programs.

Chaired by Ross Bleckner (BA ’71) and sustained by members’ annual contributions, Friends of Art provides scholarships to exceptional young art students who would not otherwise be able to finance an education at NYU.

Last semester, friends came together to celebrate the program at the home of Suzanne and Bob Cochran. The Cochrans opened their Tribeca loft and art collection to a party that included Shelley and Donald Rubin, Joel Shapiro and Ellen Phelan, Nicole Miller, and Joel Grey.

Since 2010, more than twenty five students have received scholarships. The Cochrans, as well as Ross Bleckner, Olivier Sarkozy, Joel Shapiro and Ellen Phelan, and Judy and Michael Steinhardt, are founding members of the group.
