Celebrating Steinhardt’s Olympic Champion, Alumnus Ray Lumpp (BS ’50)

The last time the Olympics were held in London, a junior from NYU’s School of Education brought home a gold medal.  In a New York Times interactive feature, Steinhardt alumnus Ray Lumpp (BS ’50) recounts his brief season as a member of the winning 1948 U.S. Olympic basketball team.

“The rules over there were different than the collegiate rules we had in New York, but we were able to eek out a win; that’s what counts,” Lumpp said.

Lumpp was a star basketball player at NYU who played five seasons of professional basketball, including four years with the New York Knicks.
