Applied Economist Carolyn Dimitri is featured in the New York Times’ video, Business Day Live: Urban Farms. Dimitri, an expert on the procurement and marketing of organic food, is currently studying the state of urban agriculture in fifteen cities around the country.
“New York City is really promoting food grown inside within the five boroughs,” Dimitri said. She noted that urban farmers are producing “high value products in a very small space” that retail stores and restaurants in the area are eager to buy.
Carolyn Dimitri is an associate professor in Steinhardt’s Department of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health. To learn more about her work, visit her blog, sustainable food economics.
