Pedro Noguera Weighs in on Chancellor Appointment in New York Times

Pedro Noguera, Peter L. Agner Professor of Education in the Department of Teaching and Learning, weighs in on Mayor Bloomberg’s appointment of Cathleen Black as Department of Education chancellor inthe November 11, 2010 online edition of the New York Times.

“The corporate world typically does not prepare one to understand the ways in which issues related to poverty interact closely with education. In communities like the South Bronx or East New York where poverty is concentrated and many schools are struggling, a new approach will be needed,” Noguera says.
