Holly F. West, a doctoral candidate in the Steinhardt School’s Program in Higher and Post Secondary Education, is the recipientof the 2010 K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders Award from the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). The award recognizes studentswho demonstrate a commitment to helping develop academic and civic responsibility in their communities and whose research emphasizes teaching and learning.
West, a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army and an assistant professor at West Point Military Academy, served as a platoon leader and a company commander before being selected to teach in the Academy’s Department of Systems Engineering. She has published and presented papers on engineering and teaching and among her honors are a meritorious service medal and army commendation and achievement medals.
The competitive K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders Award provides a one-year affiliation with AAC&U and financial support to attend its annual meeting.
“The K. Patricia Cross leaders represent the finest in a new generation of faculty who will teach and lead higher education in the next decades,” said Carol Geary Schneider, AAC&U’s president.
