Jonathan Veitch

Jonathan Veitch is president-elect of Occidental College in Los Angeles, California.  He was, most recently (2003-2008), Dean of Eugene Lang College at the New School, where he has also been Associate Provost for the University, and Chair of the departments of Cultural Studies and Humanities.  He holds a PhD in the History of American Civilization from Harvard University and specializes in 19th and 20th century American literature and cultural history.  As Senior Fellow at the Steinhardt Institute, Veitch is studying the future of liberal arts colleges, with a focus on the experimental tradition.
