NYU Noyce Scholarship Program

Project Summary

The NYU Noyce Scholarship Program will prepare 26 new science or math teachers for high-needs secondary schools in three cohorts over the course of four years. These are in addition to all other math and science secondary teachers who will be prepared at NYU during the grant period. The Noyce Scholars will be recruited from among 900 declared STEM majors who study each year in the NYU College of Arts and Science. They will be recruited into teaching by means of a special residency program in exemplary New York City (NYC) math and science classrooms in high-needs schools. Successful completion of the residency - including recommendations from the NYC teacher and NYU teacher educator who mentored the student in the residency, and from an NYU STEM faculty member who agrees to provide continuing content mentoring to the student - plus declaration of an education minor, make STEM majors eligible for a $10,000 undergraduate scholarship, plus a $15,000 scholarship for a 5th year program leading to certification as a math or science teacher and an MA in Science or Math Education from the NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. This graduate scholarship will be supplemented by NYU funding to cover 100% of fifth-year tuition. Scholars may opt to convert the $10,000 undergraduate scholarship into a $10,000 graduate-level living stipend.
