Families as Partners

Project Summary

The Early Childhood special Education Programs of the Department of Teaching and Learning of New York University, Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development with the support of faculty from the School of Education of Brooklyn College of the City of New York propose the development of two conferences and related activities to support the development of effective strategies for including families in early intervention services through the "Families as Partners" model currently being implemented by the NYC Early Intervention Program (NYCEIP) that seeks to support the work of clinicians working with families in providing appropriate services to their children with disabilities.

The proposed activity will have a series of components. The model will include: a town hall meeting to bring together national figures, policy makers, faculty of the representative disciplines, families and students in training; two one-day events each lead by a nationally known leader in the field and selected follow-up for individuals interested in engaging in video self analysis of change in practice based upon a model currently being implemented in NYC LYFE programs with teen mothers and care-givers.
