What is the deadline to apply?

Priority deadline is February 15. You will be notified of admission by March 1.

Regular deadline is March 15. You will be notified of admission by April 1.

What are the program dates?

Please see program calendar for full details.  The Spanish Language Intensive begins August 4 and runs through September 5. Media, Culture and Communication courses begin on September 9, 2008. Students not fully proficient in Spanish must arrive in Puebla by August 4, 2008.

Students already proficient in Spanish will take one UPAEP course taught in Spanish, by advisement, instead of the Spanish Language Intensive. These courses begin August 18, 2008.

Do I need to speak Spanish to enroll in the Puebla program?

No, the program begins with an intensive month-long language and cultural immersion program that will be tailored to your level of language ability through individualized instruction. If you have not studied Spanish before, the course will allow you to make rapid gains. If you have already studied Spanish, the course will work with your current ability level to bring you to greater fluency.

What if I am already fluent in Spanish?

Many students speak fluently but have difficulty with written expression, in which case the Spanish Language Intensive course will focus on written fluency.

If you speak, read and write fluently, you will take one UPAEP course taught in Spanish, by advisement, instead of the Spanish Language Intensive. These courses begin August 18, 2008. (You will begin the program August 18 rather than August 4).

Is Puebla a safe city?

While students must always be mindful of safety, the city of Puebla enjoys a very low crime rate, and UPAEP university provides safety orientations to all students. As part of our strong partnership with UPAEP University, local staff are dedicated to serving the needs of NYU students living in Puebla for the semester. In addition, all resources and support of NYU student services remain in place for you during the program.

Can I do an internship in Puebla?

If you speak Spanish, there are many opportunities for non-credit internships in Puebla, and connections can be established through faculty of UPAEP.

Will the courses I take count toward my major?

Yes. The Spanish course will fulfill your foreign language requirement, and other courses will as fields of study or specialization electives in the major. Please consult with your advisor for details.

Can I go to Puebla if I am not a major in Media, Culture and Communication?
