The degree’s course of study is flexible, with full-time and part-time options open to physical therapists licensed in the US and foreign countries. The goal of this unique doctorate is to provide practicing physical therapists with the clinical, research application, and business skills needed to thrive as practitioners. 

As a DPT student, you will have the opportunity to increase your knowledge and skills in:

  • Clinical work - Work as an autonomous practitioner with enhanced skills in examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, and intervention

  • Research Application - Increase your ability to practice based on evidence

  • Management - Better manage physical therapy services by analyzing current business, legal, and ethical issues in physical therapy practice

  • Fitness and Wellness - Deliver fitness and wellness programs that promote the health of the general public

This degree prepares practicing physical therapists to be well-rounded DPTs through a rigorous course of study led by highly-skilled faculty in a supportive, multicultural, and dynamic environment.

As a student, you’ll take a variety of courses, delving into topics like the musculoskeletal system, principles of exercise, management of care delivery systems, and clinical decision making to sharpen your ability to critically analyze and apply evidence-based research to cases.  

Graduates of the NYU Steinhardt DPT are rigorously trained to develop strong clinical skills that enhance their expertise in physical therapy care and management. 

Upon graduation, you will be prepared to work in a number of areas as a clinician and academic in health care facilities, universities, hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centers, schools for children with physically disabling conditions, nursing homes, and private practices both in the US and abroad.
