Undergraduate Student Spotlights

Kirstyn Myers

Music Business

What I do to de-stress:
On Fridays, I don't have class so I sleep in late. Then all day I just sit in bed, eating cereal, and catching up on TV shows I missed during the week.
I would like to be remembered for my:
Crazy quirkiness that can always make someone smile on a crappy day.
My favorite course at NYU:
Introduction to Marketing. The professor, E.Craig Stacey is an amazing person to learn from and I think marketing is really interesting because it is like me: very analytical but some creativity thrown in for spice.
Community service activity I'm most proud of:
Attending the March for Life in Washington, D.C. to help promote the pro-life movement.
After I graduate, I:
hope to find a job in the Music Industry doing something I love that challenges me creatively and analytically.
Why I chose this program at NYU Steinhardt:
It is one of the most, if not the most respected music business program in the country and there is no better place than NYC to get great and very diversified music business internships.
A book from class I would never sell back:
Making Music Make Money by Eric Beall. The music industry is desperately losing ways to make money and this book tells of the publishing side of the industry that is actually making a profit and I hope to be able to work in music publishing someday.
My inspiration:
My favorite place to study around NYU:
The tables between Bobst and KMC on a cool, sunny day.
If I took a year off from my current life, I would:
Spend time traveling around the country visiting the family that I am not able to see very often because they live so far away.
Prized possession:
I could not live without my iPod and the ability to carry the music that I love with me everywhere I go.
The professor who influenced me the most:
My Music Theory and Aural Comprehension Professor Alfred Bishai. He's taught me so much about life and the world while also teaching me so much about music. He truly is one of the most amazing professors I've ever had.
