Katherine Dillingham
Drama Therapy
Why I chose this graduate program:
My experience at the NYU audition/interview was profoundly moving, like coming home to Neverland.
When I hear the word "genius," I think of:
Stephen Hawking. Pablo Neruda. Joseph Campbell.
A nightmare I've had about school:
Can't claim to have had one yet. Graduation approaches, however!
Why I went back to graduate school: I knew I had more to offer the world, but I knew I needed guidance.
The best job I've ever had:
Drama Therapy Intern. Toy demonstrator at FAO Schwartz comes in second.
A hobby I have nobody knows about:
I sew. Mostly I recycle hand-me-downs and thrift store gems.
The professor who influenced me the most:
Robert Landy. I experience the world more completely now than I did just a year ago, largely because of the program he has established here; there is so much left to learn.
My favorite place to study around NYU:
The Grey Dog, on Carmine off Bleeker. Great soup, strong coffee. Don't tell anyone.
Community service I am most proud of:
Canvasing in West Philly before the '04 election for a non-partisan organization called Acorn.
My secret (academic) passion:
Research! I want to document drama therapy treatment with juvenile delinquents.
If I could take a year off, I would:
Win the lottery, buy an RV and a dog, and drive cross-country.
I would like to be remembered for: Quantitative research on creative arts therapy interventions. I want to find out why and how creativity untangles human consciousness.
After I graduate, I:
I want to work as a drama therapist.
