Graduate Student Spotlights

Jackie Crispell

Music Business

Why I chose this graduate program:
To gain knowledge and connections for a career in artist management
Something I collect:
Music
Why I went back to graduate school:
After working for two years and dabbling in the music business on the side, I realized that I needed to make myself more competitive in the music industry to make it my full-time gig.
My biggest challenge:
balancing school, work, interning, social life, and dog parenting.
The professor who influenced me the most:
Catherine Moore - she pushed me to look outside the box of music industry conventions to focus on predicting and driving the future of the industry, rather than following the old ways of the business.
How I take my coffee:
Vanilla latte.
Most adventurous thing I've ever done:
Moved across the country (twice) with no job and no place to live.
My secret (academic) passion:
To be my own boss and prove that artists don't need labels to succeed!
What I do to de-stress:
Go to the dog park, do yoga, and read trashy celebrity blogs.
After I graduate, I:
will be starting my own music management and marketing company, Front Burner Music.
