Graduate Student Spotlights

Stephanie Jackson

Higher and Postsecondary Education

Briefly tell us why you chose your program:
I chose the Higher Education Masters program at NYU because I was looking for a career with longevity and that would make me feel fulfilled at the end of the day. I knew from my many family members who work in education, and also from my undergraduate experience as an Orientation Leader and Learning Assistant, that this field would satisfy these two needs. Also, because this was a career change from my field in Publishing, I was excited about a two-year program that would allow me to have invaluable internship experience in the field.
My favorite course:
Foundations of Higher Education
My biggest challenge is:
Working out on a regular basis! Even with free gym access (I work in the NYU Athletic Dept)!
My favorite blog:
thefashionbomb.com
Why I went to Graduate School:
To get my Masters in a career where I could continue to learn and grow and give back throughout my life time
The worst gift I've ever received:
Any gift is a great gift!
The most obscure research I've ever done:
I have not done any obscure research
The professor who influenced me the most:
Dr. Laurie Bartell Behringer who is in the process of teaching me that research is fun! And inspiring me to continue following my passions and to pursue my Ph.D.
What I do to de-stress:
watch reality tv (The Real Housewives and Jersey Shore are two of my faves)
The place I would most like to visit is:
South Africa - and I'm going to study abroad there this summer!
My secret passion is:
large marine mammals (like killer whales - they scare me and thrill me at the same time)!
My favorite line from a song is:
"Everyone's innocent, just victims of change" Alana Davis
