Graduate Student Spotlights

Mikella Millen

Art Therapy

Briefly tell us why you chose your program:
After finishing my bachelor's in Fine Art, I quickly began to feel isolated from the rest of the world, spending whole days alone in my studio. I knew I wanted to effect change in the world, even on a small scale, and to feel that I was helping others. I learned about the Art Therapy program at NYU and it seemed to be a perfect marriage of my passions for art-making and psychology. My fieldwork now allows me to work collaboratively with people to make artwork every day, and I'm continually amazed with the courage and determination I see with my clients.
