Graduate Student Spotlights

Jomil Ebro

Media, Culture, and Communication

Briefly tell us why you chose your program:
Because, I am passionate about literature, philosophy, and media and culture studies, NYU Steinhardt provided a unique and challenging opportunity to integrate these fields. I have been encouraged by the fact that both the diverse, international student-body and the faculty itself embrace pluralistic and cross-disciplinary learning.
My inspiration is:
People who care more about compassion than being right
I would like to be remembered for:
Making a collage in which I was a good brother, son, and companion. Who always hit the mark.
Something I collect:
Things a gypsy ancestor might've worn
Why I went to Graduate School:
To earn the freedom to question life and describe it for a livelihood; and to show gratitude to my parents.
My best job ever:
Newspaper artist
A hobby I have is:
The professor who influenced me the most:
My high school senior Literature teacher, who said don't stop reading "100 Years of Solitude," even if it takes that long.
My favorite place to study is:
Housing Works Bookstore, in Soho.
My best commuity service experience:
Holding a mini brownie and macaroon sale for a children's charity. People cannot resist.
My secret passion is:
Making collages.
If I could take a year off I would:
Learn how to live off the land in Buenos Aires, Provence, or Crete.
