Graduate Student Spotlights

Erica Leo

Foreign Language Education and TESOL

Briefly tell us why you chose your program:
My dream is to teach Spanish and Italian in New York City during the academic year and teach English abroad every summer. After reviewing numerous programs at different schools, NYU Steinhardt's program was the only one that made that such a simple possibility. My program combines two majors: Foreign Language Education and TESOL due to the similar curriculum and makes it possible for a part-time student with a full time job like me to achieve certification in two years.
My inspiration is:
The success I've achieved through hard work in the past
I would like to be remembered for:
Being an effective language teacher
Something I collect:
Souvenir pennies from different cities and countries I've visited
Why I went to Graduate School:
To get my teacher certification and to learn as much as possible about my craft
My best job ever:
Teaching Advanced English in Italy with my friend from Whales
A hobby I have is:
Going out dancing at latin clubs
The professor who influenced me the most:
Professor DeFazio- because of him, I'm considering going on to get my doctorate in Linguistics!
My favorite place to study is:
The Oval at Stuy Town when it's nice out
My best commuity service experience:
Being a part of the Ready Resolve program at NYULMC
My secret passion is:
singing
If I could take a year off I would:
Travel- first back to Italy then to countries I've never been
