Erica Carryl

Doctoral Fellow, Developmental Psychology

Erica Carryl is a newly enrolled doctoral student and fellowship recipient in Psychological Development and holds a B.A. in Psychology from Brown University. Most recently Erica served as a Research Project Coordinator in the Psychology Department at Yale University where she has also worked as a research assistant in the Peer Relations lab. She was a 2003 Millennium Fellow to the Society for Research in Child Development conference.

Erica finds the range of faculty interests at The Steinhardt School very appealing.  "Of particular interest to me is the work of Dr. Joshua Aronson that investigates the impact of stereotype threat on the academic achievement of minority adolescents, the research of Dr. Niobe Way that examines the development and resiliency among urban, poor adolescents, and the work of Dr. LaRue Allen that focuses on the cultural ecological and social factor that affect child and adolescent behavior."

Erica is focusing her studies "on at-risk adolescents of color.  Through my work, I hope to provide a voice for this particular population of youth and to integrate basic and applied research that will lend itself to the development and implementation of effective youth programs and policies."
