Doctoral Student Profiles

Doctoral students are attracted to Steinhardt for its intimate learning environment and diverse programs of study, many of which are interdisciplinary. Our location in a dynamic urban setting provides valuable sites for both intellectual exploration and applied research. Teaching and research assistantships support dozens of doctoral students each year to develop essential skills in pedagogy and research. They join us from all parts of the world and from such varied backgrounds as educational consultant, project coordinator, and artist educator. They come to work and learn with our faculty and to undertake original research on issues about which they are passionate: immigrant children, race relations, social justice, learning disabilities, language and literacy, globalization and media, popular culture, and fusion jazz.
