Tara McAllister Awarded $3 Million Grant

Doctor putting hearing aid in child's ear

PRIISM faculty Dr. Tara McAllister was awarded a $3 million grant by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to continue research to evaluate the effectiveness of in-person versus telepractice delivery of biofeedback intervention for speech sound disorder. The ability to provide these types of services remotely could be critical for allowing more children to receive the help that they need.

The Biofeedback-Enhanced Treatment for Sensorimotor Learning in Speech Sound Disorders project supported by co-investigator and PRIISM co-director Dr. Jennifer Hill expands on previous research that led to Dr. McAllister’s team to develop “staRt” , a free iOs app, that helps people eliminate speech errors affecting the American English 'r' sound. In a recent pilot study conducted by the team, delivering biofeedback treatments via telepractice was shown to be effective.
