Dance Education in Uganda

Video by William Caballero

During our second week in Uganda, we worked with several children from different orphanages in order to create a dance performance. This video focuses on one of those organizations. The Bitone Dance Troupe is an organization that rehabilitates orphans and children who have been affected by the violence of the Ugandan Civil War, disease and economic hardships. It provides housing, schooling and training traditional Ugandan arts; especially dance. During the week, the children each told me a bit about themselves. These children come from a very tough background; some had parents who died of AIDS, some had parents who were killed in the Ugandan Civil War. However, I felt a great sense of contentment knowing that the children are being taken care of by such a great organization as Bitone. Seeing the children laugh and smile really shows that they are looking to the future with optimism. I hope this short video gets gets exposure for this organization. The children are beautiful and deserve the best. I felt that the least I could do.
