Public Health

Thank you for your inquiry about our PhD program in Public Health at Steinhardt. We are currently in the process of making exciting changes to the public health doctoral offerings at NYU, which we anticipate will be available to students entering in the Fall of 2013. The enhancements to the Public Health PhD coincide with the launch of the innovative NYU Global Institute of Public Health, where the public health doctoral program will reside. The revisions currently underway focus on an interdisciplinary approach to public health education in a global context, drawing from the academic and research strengths of our faculty across the university.

More information about the NYU Global Institute of Public Health and the academic offerings will be available over the coming months. If you would like to stay informed of developments regarding the doctoral program in public health, or if you have any general questions about the PhD, please contact Dr. Perry Halkitis,  Associate Dean for Research and Doctoral Studies. at perry.halkitis@nyu.edu.

The Department of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health offers an interdisciplinary program of advanced study in public health that prepares graduates for teaching, research, administrative, and leadership positions in academic, government, industry, and other institutions.

The Doctoral Program in Public Health is targeted to individuals who wish to develop advanced skills in public health research. A prior graduate degree in public health or a related field is strongly preferred. Graduates of the program are prepared in careers as leaders in academic institutions, public and private sector organizations, and governmental agencies in state, national, and international settings. Students will benefit from the interdisciplinary nature of the Department and the wider NYU community where faculty have existing research programs in the United States and internationally.

Detailed explanations of The Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development requirements for the doctorate are provided in the Handbook of Doctoral Study, available from the Office of Graduate Studies, and The Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development Graduate Bulletin.
