Internship Opportunities:

STUDY OF DRUG ADDICTIONS AND AIDS AFFECTING PEOPLE FROM ACATLAN DE OSORIO PUEBLA, WHO EMIGRATE TO THE USA AND ASSOCIATED FACTORS.

OBJECTIVE

The purpose of this investigation is to identify and describe the factors associated to drug addiction and AIDS affecting people from Acatlán de Osorio Puebla when emigrate to the USA.

ANTECEDENTS

An elevated incidence of drug addiction and AIDS has been identified among people from Acatlán de Osorio Puebla when they emigrate to the USA.

EXPOSITION OF THE PROBLEM

· Which are the economical, social and cultural factors associated to the problem of drug addiction and AIDS among emigrants from Acatlan when they go to the USA?

· What is the magnitude and type of drugs consumed by people from Acatlán ?

· What is the evolution and severity of people from Acatlán with AIDS?

PHASES OF INTERVENTION OF PUBLIC HEALTH MASTER STUDENTS FROM NEW YORK UNIVERSITY (NYU)

PHASE I: PLANNING.

Student from NYU will take part in the design and integration of the protocol of this investigation jointly with the following people

· Public Health Master Program Coordinator

· Project Coordinator from the Public Health Government Office

· International Relation undergraduate thesis Coordinator

· Epidemiologist and Head of the Sanitary Office from Acatlan

PHASE II: WORK DEVELOPMENT

The NYU students will take part on the field work (searching of information by applying surveys) accompanied by a health promoter guide. They will also be coordinated by an epidemiologist and the Project Coordinator from the Health Government Office.

PHASE III: DATA ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION

Both NYU and UPAEP Public Health students will take part in the analysis and interpretation of the information. They will be coordinated by both the coordinator of the Public Health Master and Project Coordinator from the Health Government Office.

PHASE IV: RESULTS PRESENTATION AND FINAL REPORT

The students will write the final report giving proposals of intervention for the solution of the identified problems.

Intern Qualifications:

Student must be currently enrolled in the Community Public Health program in the Department of Nutrition, Food Studies & Public Health.
