DPD Verification Policy

Issuance of Verification Statements for DPD Students in
HONF-RDS (Undergraduates) and HOND (Graduates)

Policy: Every effort will be made to provide undergraduate and graduate students who meet DPD requirements with DPD Verification statements.

Undergraduate HONF-RDS

  1. Students should apply for this statement in their final year of study as they pursue post-baccalaureate dietetic internships. Allow 3 weeks for issuance.
  2. Application forms (attached) are available in the department office and do not require a processing fee.
  3. The request and student transcripts are examined by the DPD Evaluator and DPD Director and a "Verification Statement" or "Declaration of Intent to finish the DPD" is issued (signed and dated by the DPD Director) to each student (number of copies varies depending on internship applications).
    1. The Declaration of Intent should list courses to be completed in their final semester (fall, spring, summer). Students need to supply information on courses to be completed.
  4. After graduation at the end of May, January, or September, 4 copies are issued to each student completing the DPD and B.S. Degree at New York University.
  5. One copy of the DPD is maintained in the student's file and a record is maintained on an electronic database. Student files are maintained in the department for 7 years.

Graduate HOND

  1. Students should apply for this statement in their final year of study as they pursue accredited dietetic internships. Allow 3 weeks for issuance.
  2. Application forms (attached) are available in the department office. If the student did not do their undergraduate degree at NYU, their application should be submitted with a $25 processing fee payable to the New York University Department of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health.
  3. Graduate students who do not have prior DPD Verification from an ADA-accredited program are eligible for DPD Verification from NYU if they have taken a minimum of 15 NYU credits.
  4. The request and student transcripts are examined by the DPD Evaluator and DPD Director and a "Verification Statement" or "Declaration of Intent to finish the DPD" is issued (signed and dated by the DPD Director) to each student (number of copies varies depending on internship applications).
    1. The Declaration of Intent should list courses to be completed in their final semester (fall, spring, summer). Students need to supply information on courses to be completed.
  5. Graduate DPD Verification or DPD Declaration must be filled out and turned in to the department office to be admitted to Master's Degree courses as confirmed by the Graduate Advisement Coordinator.
  6. One copy of the DPD is maintained in the student's file and a recond is maintained on an electronic database. Student files are maintained in the department for 7 years.
