Deputy Director Adriana Villavicencio at the UCEA Convention 2016

Deputy Director Dr. Adriana Villavicencio participated in two sessions at the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA) Annual Convention in Detroit, MI in November 2016.

Dr. Villavicencio participated in a session focused on social-emotional learning and school leadership. Drawing from the Research Alliance report, “Strategies for Improving School Culture: Educator Reflections on Transforming the High School Experience for Black and Latino Young Men,” Dr. Villavicencio discussed efforts in a group of schools to develop culturally relevant education; adopt restorative approaches to discipline; promote strong relationships in school; and provide early support for students’ postsecondary goals.

The second session brought together a group of Latina scholars, including Dr. Villavicencio, to discuss strategies for building and supporting networks of Latina scholars.
