Three Faculty Win Global Research Incubator Awards

For the first time, NYU Steinhardt faculty challenge grants have included a Global Research Incubator Award, which support the development of faculty global research through small-scale, pilot, or formative studies. Successful proposal show evidence of how support from the Global Research Incubator Award will catalyze projects to longer-term success.  

The peer-review process awarded three grants. Marilyn Nonken, Associate Professor of Music and Performing Arts Professions, will conduct research in Paris for her project, “Hugues Dufourt: Spectral Music, Philosophy and Phenomena of Pure Engagement.”  Krishnendu Ray, Chair and Associate Professor of Food Studies will bring together research from North America, Europe and Asia through his book project, “Retheorizing a Right to the City: A political and cultural history of the street vendor in the West.” Gustavo Setrini, Assistant Professor of Food Studies, will conduct fieldwork in Lima, Trujillo and Piura for his project, “Investigating State Institutions and the Produce Export Boom in Northern Peru.”
