Educational Theatre Program Celebrates 50th Anniversary at Annual Forum

The Forum on Educational Theatre is held annually by the Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions’ Educational Theatre faculty.  This year’s event was a 5-day conference held in April of 2016 consisting of workshops, presentations, and performances on Drama in Education, Applied Theatre, and Theatre for Young Audiences and Play Production.  NYU Steinhardt faculty hosted a global community of scholars in celebration of the Educational Theatre programs fifty year anniversary including participants from Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, UK, and across the US.  This year’s Forum built on collaborations from previous years in curriculum development, assessment, teaching artistry, playwriting, ethnodrama, Shakespeare, citizenship, and site specific theatre.

David Montgomery, Director of the Educational Theatre Program and Clinical Assistant Professor, described this year’s Forum. “It was our 13th annual forum, and our biggest one yet. So many artist, practitioners and researchers attended, and they came from all around the globe.  It was a wonderful way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our program.”
