Nakia M. Gray, a doctoral candidate in Education Leadership, was appointed as the 2016-2017 Graduate Student Council Lead Reviewer in Division A and in the AERA Graduate Student Council (GSC). In this position she will coordinate the AERA annual Foster-Polite Scholarship and the Dialogic Forum. The position offers a unique opportunity to get involved in Division A matters and to work closely with scholars in the field, including meeting and working with graduate students both within Division A and from different disciplines.

At NYU, Nakia is currently ABD. Her research is centered on college readiness, capital, and access to pre-college programs. Nakia has worked in non-profit, as a secondary school teacher, an adjunct lecturer and most recently (2010-2015) the director of a pre-college program. Her work as a pre-college director led her to questions of equity of access, equity of resources, and rigor and credibility of these types of programs, with particular interest in the decision-making processes and characteristics of students, guidance counselors, and program staff.
