PhD Student Nour Makarem Nominated for Emerging Leaders in Nutrition Science Competition

Nour Makarem Recognized as a Finalist in Emerging Leaders in Nutrition Science Competition

[New York, NY] – February 10, 2016 – Nour Makarem has been named a finalist in the American Society for Nutrition’s (ASN) Emerging Leaders in Nutrition Science Competition, an event that recognizes the highest scoring research presented by students and young investigators at ASN’s Scientific Sessions and Annual Meeting at Experimental Biology 2016. 

More than 1,000 abstracts were submitted by students and postdoctoral fellows and the Emerging Leaders in Nutrition Science Competition aims to recognize the top 20% highest scoring abstracts as finalists. Abstracts were rated by more than 200nutrition scientists.

Ms. Nour Makarem's has been nominated for two research abstracts, one titled "Dietary Carbohydrate Intake, Glycemic Index and Glycemic Load in Relation to Adiposity-Related Cancer Risk: Results from The Framingham Offspring Cohort (1991-2013)" by the Nutritional Epidemiology Research Interest Section and the other titled "Consumption of Total and Individual Sugars, Sugary Foods and Sugary Beverages in Relation to Adiposity-Related Cancer Risk in the Framingham Offspring Cohort (1991-2013)" by the Diet and Cancer Research Interest Section.

All finalists will compete in a poster competition to be held Saturday, April 2 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm in the Sails Pavilion of the San Diego Convention Center. Grand prize winners in more than 16 research areas will be identified and receive travel awards.

The Emerging Leaders in Nutrition Science Competition is being organized by ASN’s Research Interest Sections, Global Nutrition Council and Medical Nutrition Council and sponsored by PepsiCo.
