Physical Therapy Department Introduces New J-1 Research Internship

The Department of Physical Therapy introduced a new research internship program in 2016 for undergraduate and graduate students training in physical therapy programs outside the United States.

The program provides successful applicants with opportunities for mentored physical therapy research at NYU Steinhardt and at the Arthur J Nelson Human performance lab. Alexandra Hummel and Carolin Schulz from the University of Bern were the inaugural research interns of 2016. In addition to literature searches and statistical analyses with Smita Rao, PT, PhD, they participated in a wide cross section of academic programs at our Department and School. From the "Lip Sync Battle" fundraiser to to weekend intensives in Orthopedic Physical Therapy to graduation festivities, they became part of the fabric of NYU life. Their mentor,  Stefan Schmid, PT, MA, DSc, is a graduate of our MA program and has been instrumental in partnering with Smita Rao, PT, PhD and bringing this J1Research Internship to fruition.

The Department looks forward to awarding this internship to new students in the upcoming academic years.
