Elizabeth Unger M.A. Food Studies wins National Geographic Young Explorer's Grant

Food Studies master's student Elizabeth Unger was awarded a $5,000 National Geographic Young Explorer's Grant for her work on Japanese-Brazilian food culture. Using those funds, she will be traveling to Hamamatsu, Japan and São Paulo, Brazil this summer to complete a photojournalism project about the relationship between everyday eating habits and ethnic self-identification of Japanese-Brazilians.

Unger is a photojournalist and videographer in New York, where she is pursuing her master's degree in Food Studies at NYU. She is the recipient of a 2015 Julia Child Foundation Food Writing Fellowship at Saveur magazine and currently serves on the Executive Board of the Food Studies Grad Society. Her long-standing passion for adventure, food, and exotic landscapes has led her across seven continents throughout the past six years and she's loved every minute of the way.
