Paul Chihara Receives Tanglewood Commission

This summer, the Tanglewood Music Festival celebrates the 75th Anniversary of its historic founding by the Boston Symphony Orchestra under the legendary Serge Koussevitsky. The eight-week festival will feature a dazzling array of great live music: orchestral, opera, chamber, and jazz, and include some of the most visible world artists, from Yo-Yo Ma to Lady Gaga. NYU Film Scoring Artist Faculty Paul Chihara has been chosen to receive one of the commissions, which will be premiered along with a commissioned piece by David Lang on the final day of the Festival, August 16. Dr. Chihara first attended Tanglewood fifty years ago, on a fellowship granted personally by Leonard Bernstein. Since then, he has returned as a student, visiting composer, and/or teacher at least twenty times, and credits the festival as the genesis of his professional and artistic career.
