Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health Department teams up with Communicative Sciences and Disorders for #ThickenedLiquidChallenge

The Departments of Communicative Sciences and Disorders and Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health organized a thickened liquid challenge to raise awareness about swallowing disorders.  The challenge came to NYU by way of the National Foundation of Swallowing Disorders.  The foundation's goals are to increase swallowing disorder awareness, demonstrate patient unity with the millions of Americans who consume thickened liquids daily due to swallowing disorders, and provide education about the types of thickeners available.

Prof. Sonja Molfenter, a specialist in swallowing disorders and faculty member in CSD, brought together students and faculty from both departments to drink thickened liquids.  She was assisted by Profs. Lisa Sasson and Erin Embry, of Nutrition and CSD respectively, who also collaborate regularly on the need for good, nutritious meals for patients with medical conditions.
