Professor Joseph Bongiorno and Yo-Yo Ma Perform and Record

Yo-Yo Ma and Joseph Bongiorno at Caramoor

Double bassist Professor Joseph Bongiorno, Director of Orchestras for NYU Steinhardt and a charter member of the Knights Orchestra, reunited with Yo-Yo Ma, his former Juilliard Pre-College classmate, to perform and record Osvaldo Golijov's Azul

The concert in September closed the 2015 summer season at Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts in Katonah, New York. The recording took place at the Bric Center for Media Arts in Brooklyn, where the Knights Orchestra has recently established a residency.
In fall 2014, Professor Bongiorno performed on the soon-to-be-released CD of Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2, with Gil Shaham as soloist. He was also solo bassist for Director of Brass Studies John Rojak’s CD of Jack Gale’s jazz-inflected twelve-tone work for bass, drums, piano, and solo bass trombone, which was recorded in Steinhardt’s Dolan Studios and engineered by Paul Geluso.
