New Report from Research Associate Lisa Merrill: "What Are the Effects of Teacher Education and Preparation on Beginning Teacher Attrition?"

A research report from the Consortium for Policy Research in Education, What Are the Effects of Teacher Education and Preparation on Beginning Teacher Attrition?explores how the amount and type of training that teachers receive before entering the workforce affects their longevity in the teaching field. The report, written by Richard Ingersoll with Lisa Merill and Henry May, finds that teachers with more training in classroom methods and pedagogy have a great likelihood of remaining in the field for longer, but that other factors, such as the type of college attended or certificate earned, are less significant.
