Alum Alfdaniels Mabingo Publishes Articles in JEDS and RIDE

Alum Alfdaniels Mabingo has published two articles about his experience teaching Ugandan dance to NYU Steinhardt Dance Education students.

In his article, "Teaching East African Dances in Higher Education in the US: Reconciling Content and Pedagogy," which appeared in Journal of Emerging Dance Scholarship, Mabingo discusses how he chose dances for his Ugandan dance course, developed lesson plans, gave feedback to students, and developed and applied assessment rubrics, while allowing students to partake in the learning processes and understand the social and cultural applications of the dances.

The journal, which is administered by the World Dance Alliance, focuses on publishing the work of current graduate students in dance and dance-related fields, and those who have recently graduated. Access the abstract and full text.

Research in Dance Education published "NYU Dance Education Study Abroad Program to Uganda: Impact On Work Experiences of Study Abroad Alumni in New York City" in August 2014. In this article Mabingo describes the impact the NYU Steinhardt Dance Education study abroad program in Uganda has had on alumni of the program. Through interviews, he describes their pre-travel preparation, cross-cultural learning encounters while there, and how they use what they learned in the program in their work.
