Tracy Chippendale Joins the Faculty in Fall 2013
Tracy Chippendale, PhD, OTR/L, has accepted a position as Assistant Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy, effective September 2013.
Dr. Chippendale’s research and professional focus is on improving the quality of life of seniors. She has over 17 years of experience in occupational therapy practice with older adults. Her research focuses on interventions that enable elders to remain in their own home or age in place, including non-pharmacological interventions for depressive symptoms and interventions to increase the healthcare workforce in geriatrics. She also studies the impact of the neighborhood environment on falls.
Seniors face complex issues as they age and Dr. Chippendale is committed to understanding the barriers to aging successfully. “Dr. Chippendale’s work on geriatrics, psychosocial behavior, and intervention supports the Steinhardt Department of Occupational Therapy’s increasing focus on interdisciplinary education and the rehabilitation sciences,” said Dr. Kristie Patten Koenig, who headed the department’s search committee.
Dr. Chippendale’s research has been published in the American Journal of Occupational Therapy, Physical and Occupational Therapy in Geriatrics and Clinical Gerontologist. She teaches courses on human development, research, and occupational therapy practice with older adults. She received her PhD in occupational therapy from NYU in 2011 and, before joining the faculty at Steinhardt, held a position as assistant professor in the department of occupational therapy at Tufts University.
