Alumna Ruthie Ann Miles Receives Theatre World Award

Ruthie Ann Miles (M.A. Vocal Performance, 2007) has received a 2013 Theatre World Award for her breakout debut performance as Imelda Marcos in Here Lies Love at The Public Theater. The prestigious award was presented by her former professor Meg Bussert, who herself won a Theatre World Award in 1981 for her debut in the 1980 revival of The Music Man.

David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's musical Here Lies Love chronicles the rise and fall of Filipina First Lady Imelda Marcos. Critics have praised Ruthie Ann Miles' performance as "vivid and haunting" (New York Daily News) and "played with appealing verve" (New York magazine). Entertainment Weekly enthused, "Ruthie Ann Miles is especially on point as Imelda. Not only does she have a lovely, dynamic set of pipes, but she also infuses the first lady with just the right amount of strength and sensitivity."

Since her graduation, she has appeared in Avenue Q at New World Stages, the national tours of Sweeney Todd and Annie, as well as countless regional productions.
