Music Business Alums Score Top Hit with "Say Something"

Music Business alums Ian Axel and Chad Vaccarino, who comprise the Epic Records duo A Great Big World, continue their rise to fame.

Their hit single "Say Something" reached number one on the iTunes Songs chart, entered the Billboard Digital Songs chart at number one, and has gone platinum in YouTube views. It is being played on top radio stations across the country. They recently celebrated the release of their new CD, Is There Anybody Out There?, with a sold out show at the Highline Ballroom in New York City.

Their performance of "Say Something" at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show was a highlight of the annual lingerie event. They also performed the song with Christina Aguilera on the 2013 American Music Awards and on NBC's The Voice on November 5. Aguilera recorded the song with them earlier this fall. Following their success with "Say Something," A Great Big World's second single, "I Really Want It," quickly entered the top ten on the iTunes charts. Read MTV's enthusiastic review of the song here.

They recently competed against twelve other musical groups in MTV's Buzzworthy Breakthrough Artist of 2013 contest.

They opened for Maroon 5 on two New Year's Eve shows in Las Vegas, highlighting their song "This is the New Year."

The band's bio notes the alums' creative genesis at NYU Steinhardt: "A Great Big World began in the crowded practice rooms at NYU where Ian Axel and Chad Vaccarino were both studying music business while fostering dreams of writing and performing."  In an interview in the San Francisco Examiner, the duo describes how studying Music Business at NYU Steinhardt has helped them in their career.
