Musicologist Martin Scherzinger's Talks, Publications, and Recording
Martin Scherzinger, associate professor in the NYU Steinhardt Department of Media, Culture, and Communication, will be giving the following talks:
(1) "Boulez, Prophet (or How Deleuze Misunderstands Music)," at the American Musicological Society, in Indianapolis, IN, on November 5.
(2) "Double Voices of Musical Censorship," at the American Studies Association, in San Antonio, TX, on November 18.
Martin will also be participating in a roundtable discussion with the conductor and composer Pierre Boulez, entitled "Dialogue de l'ombre double: Pierre Boulez and the Reinvention of Musical Research," on the Occasion of the Composer's 85th Birthday, at Columbia University, NY, on December 6.
He recently published "Temporal Geometries of an African Music," in Music Theory Online. The article is an investigation in the mathematical dimensions of African rhythmic processes. He also published an article titled "Enforced Deterritorialization; or the Trouble with Musical Politics," in a book titled Sounding the Virtual: Gilles Deleuze and the Philosophy of Music (eds. Brian Hulse and Nick Nesbitt). Surrey: Ashgate, 2010, 149-18.
In addition to his work as a scholar, Martin is a composer and performer. In September 2010, he released a piece for The Bow Project: Nightingale String Quartet on Tutl Records.
