Erika Niwa, a doctoral candidate in the Psychological Development program, has received a Global Fellowship from the Office of Globalization and Multicultural Affairs at New York University. Her project is entitled "Cross-Cultural Conversations: Exploring Cultural Identity Among New York University and East China Normal University Students" and will be conducted this May (2008) at the NYU site in Shanghai, China. In collaboration with a colleague from Nanjing, China, Dr. Yueming Jia, and under the mentorship of Dr. Niobe Way, Erika will be conducting an intensive two-week workshop series focusing on cultural identity, specifically the role that culture plays in the development of self and relationships. This educational series will not only focus on conceptual and theoretical aspects of "Culture" and cultural identity, but on the the methodological implications of such work for scholarship and practice.
