Art Department Alumnae Chosen to Show at Prestigious Whitney Biennial 2008

Department of Art and Art Professions alumnae, Carol Bove, Amy Granat, and MK Guth have been chosen to exhibit work at the 2008 Whitney Biennial of American Art at the Whitney Museum in New York City. Established as an annual exhibition in 1918, the Biennial characterizes the state of American art today.

Carol Bove (BS, 2000) is the creator of innovative installations that explore the distance between the utopian formal and political ideals of the 1960s and those of our current culture. Her recent exhibition, “The Middle Pillar,” was featured in Artforum magazine’s year-end Best of 2007 issue. Amy Granat (MA, 2007) creates elegant abstract works in 16mm film that have been exhibited in the United States and in Europe. MK Guth (MFA, 2002) is a multidisciplinary artist working in video, photography, and sculpture. For the exhibition, Guth will exhibit a room-sized installation, “Ties for Protection and Safekeeping,” which use Rapunzel’s braid as its metaphor.
