Revolution in Jewish Education Begins at NYU Steinhardt
In 2001, the Steinhardt School established the Ph.D. in Education and Jewish Studies, the first doctoral training program in Jewish education at an American research university. The mission of the program is to prepare researchers and practitioners for leadership positions in a wide range of Jewish educational settings. Students receive broad preparation in learning theory, research methods, educational administration, as well as curriculum development.
“The program is special because it is helping meet the pressing need for highly qualified leaders in Jewish education by preparing students at the doctoral level for key positions in virtually every educational setting in the American Jewish community,” says Mary Brabeck, dean of the Steinhardt School. Graduates of the program have earned highly competitive positions in the academic world and in educational settings within the Jewish community.
