IESP's Siegel Backs Bloomberg's Fair Student Funding Proposal

Dorothy Siegel, a research scientist at the Institute for Education and Social Policy, writes that the “least-qualified teachers” are routinely put into “underfinanced schools that serve the poorest children.”

Siegel believes that to remedy the problem, the “fair student funding” proposal by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg should be implemented. In a letter to the New York Times, she states that Bloomberg’s plan would “increase the likelihood that schools with more needy students could acquire and retain experienced teachers,” which she believes is an “important – and necessary – step forward for fairness and equity in the school system.”
