From September through December, a display of public art will be situated on the sides of New York’s taxis as a tribute to the centennial of the city’s taxi service. The project is called "Garden on Transit," and the city’s taxis are being used as a “massive civic canvas” for artistic expression.
“Public art used to be the equestrian statue in the town square,” David Darts, an assistant professor in the Department of Art and Art Professions, told the Associated Press. “When we think about public art today, it really is something that’s more conceptual in nature.”
