The Teach New York: NYC Partnership for Teacher Excellence Scholarship is a unique opportunity that encourages students to pursue a teaching career in a high-need area at the secondary level. Students interested in teaching at the middle school level are particularly encouraged to apply. High-need areas are currently identified as mathematics and science. This competitive scholarship program seeks academically strong applicants who possess a commitment to teaching in the New York City public school system.
Selected candidates receive full tuition or generous scholarships (based on merit and need) towards the tuition cost of their degree program and participate in specialized mentoring, tutoring and placement activities as part of The New York City Partnership for Teacher Excellence, a unique partnership program among NYU, the City University of New York (CUNY) and the NYC Department of Education. In return for receiving scholarship support, candidates agree to teach for two years in a high-need content area in the New York City school system upon graduation.

Eligible Programs & Courses
All selected students commit to the Partnership program model and to working in a New York City public school upon graduation,
- Mathematics education: Generous to full tuition scholarships
- Science education: Full tuition scholarships
Application Process
The application process is meant to identify candidates showing the strongest potential for being an effective educator; who are the most committed to teaching in a shortage area in New York City; and who have the greatest financial need. Eligible candidates must:
- Apply and be admitted to one of the eligible master’s degree programs listed above (Fast Track Summer Entry deadline is January 6th; Regular Track Fall Entry deadline is February 1st);
- Complete the supplemental scholarship application by March 1st;
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) being sure that the information is sent to NYU (institution code 002785).
