Woodwind Faculty: Larry Guy

Larry Guy is a former member of the Atlanta Symphony, Joffrey Ballet Orchestra, Long Island Philharmonic, Lake George Opera, and the Metropolitan Opera Guild Orchestra.  He has also performed with the New York Philharmonic, Orchestra of St. Luke's, Orpheus Ensemble, New York City Opera, New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, American Composers Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony, and the Brooklyn Philharmonic.

An avid chamber musician, Mr. Guy has played with the Manhattan and Vermeer String Quartets and has presented solo recitals at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, the Phillips Collection in Washington, D. C. and at numerous other halls throughout the country.

His lectures and masterclasses, acclaimed throughout the U. S. and abroad, include appearances at the Royal Academy in Stockholm, Northwestern University, the Tanglewood Institute, the University of Oklahoma, Rice University, and the University of Texas.  As Chair of Pedagogy for the International Clarinet Association, he writes a column, "The Pedagogy Corner", for every issue of The Clarinet magazine, and lectures at annual ClarinetFests throughout the world.

Mr. Guy is the author of five handbooks for clarinetists:  Selection, Adjustment, and Care of Single Reeds, Intonation Training for Clarinetists, Embouchure Building for Clarinetists, Hand and Finger Development for Clarinetists, and The Daniel Bonade Workbook.  In addition, he has made three texts published by Daniel Bonade, long out of print, available again to clarinetists in one volume called The Complete Daniel Bonade.  Mr. Guy is the producer of three educational CDs for Boston Records showcasing the artistry of great clarinetists of the past:  Daniel Bonade, Ralph McLane, and Mitchell Lurie.
